Punjab Chief Minister’s Special Support Program for Cancer Patients
The Punjab government has launched a major health support program free cancer treatment Punjab, to help people with serious illnesses like cancer. medical treatment worth up to Rs. 10 lakh (Rs. 1 million). This includes
help for consultations, diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy,
medicines, and follow-up care. The program also supports heart and other
serious disease treatments, but here we focus on the aspects for cancer
patients.
Who Can Benefit
The support is mainly for people who:
- Are legally
residing in Punjab (have official proof like domicile or identity
documents).
- Have a
confirmed cancer diagnosis from an oncologist or medical report.
- Come
from low-income families and genuinely cannot afford major
treatment costs.
- Do not
already have other major health insurance covering their cancer care.
The first phase of the project planned to issue support
cards to around 45,000 patients across the province.
How to Apply
To register for support under this program:
- Visit
an authorised registration centre: These are usually government
hospitals and health facilities in cities throughout Punjab.
- Show
medical proof: Bring reports that confirm your cancer diagnosis.
- Submit
personal and financial documents: This includes your identity card,
family income details, and any certificates proving financial need.
- Fill
out the registration form: Staff at the centre will guide you through
the application.
- Verification:
Health officials check your medical and financial details. Once approved,
you receive a support card.

So far, the program works with government hospitals and
specialized cancer treatment centres in many major cities of Punjab. These
include established public hospitals where patients can get care without
upfront charges. Mobile registration units or special facilitation counters are
often set up at:

district headquarters
